Reduce Noise Pollution in Cities

Smart Cities

Plug and play Smart sensors allow urban metropolis of Cuenca (Ecuador) to create noise maps to control the cities noise pollution

Noise pollution is a public health problem. The population exposed to a noise level above 65 decibels develops a higher rate of heart attacks, excessive noise pollution seriously harms human health and interferes with people’s daily activities at school, at work, at home and during leisure time. The citizens of Cuenca city have been complaining about the excessive street noise and are demanding Smart solutions to make their city more livable and healthy.

In this project, the city installed seven Smart IoT sensors in seven different places to measure – noise level, atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity. The information collected by the sensors is sent every 10 minutes via 4G to storage servers. The data is public and can be viewed through their website in real-time. This allows decision-makers, who can now track noise emissions accurately, to better manage the behaviour of the city.
