Adroits New Sensor Technology Increases Accuracy and Reliability

Adroit is excited to announce additions to its range of industry-leading sensor technology to improve data accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of our real-time environmental monitoring solutions.

Our philosophy is to source best-in-breed sensor technology from throughout the world, combine it with Adroit’s design, installation and support services, IoT network, platform and analytics to create market-leading technology solutions for environmental monitoring.

Adroit is excited to announce five new technology additions, all of which add to our industry-leading capability for real-time monitoring solutions that can solve almost any environmental data-gathering challenge.

VEGA radar sensors monitor water levels through a continuous radar signal

Vega Radar Sensors for Flood Detection and Water Level Monitoring

Continuous monitoring of water levels is key to providing early warning in flood detection, safeguarding assets, environments and communities. So, Adroit has responded to a clear need in New Zealand for technology to assist in this sector with VEGA radar sensors.

VEGA radar sensors monitor water levels through a continuous radar signal reflected by the water surface and received as an echo by the antenna. They utilise 80 GHz technology that enables unique focusing of the radar beam and a wide dynamic range of radar sensors.

Non-contact radar technology delivers high measurement accuracy and has little to no maintenance requirements. It is not affected by changing environmental conditions such as temperature, pressure or strong dust generation.

Water level radar sensors fitted to bridges, dams or other infrastructure can continuously and accurately warn of imminent danger of flooding, potential damage, or risk to the public. Alert thresholds can be set to reflect the level of risk, without needing visual confirmation.

And, VEGA sensor technology can be integrated with Iridium satellite connectivity to ensure reliable data from any location, even during serious weather events, reducing the need to put employees in harm’s way.

Phathom Sensors for Turbidity and TSS Measurement

New Zealand-made Phathom Sensors have been designed to provide precise sediment for turbidity or Total Suspended Solids (TSS) measurements across a wide range of harsh environments – providing dependable results and facilitating informed decision-making.

Phathom New Zealand-made sensors make it possible to cost effectively monitor turbidity in streams, ponds or tanks in real time – replacing traditional grab sampling which requires costly and time-consuming site visits, and only provides specific point-in-time information.

Phathom sensors use sophisticated multi-beam technology in a rugged, durable package, with self-compensating algorithms to correct for measurement errors to deliver greater accuracy.

They are also designed to use low power, so they’re able to be used alongside other sensors in environments where only solar or battery power can be used.

With a range of options available, businesses can select sensors tailored to specific needs, whether it’s for dewatering by construction in pits or tanks, portable units for on-the-go measurements, or robust models for continuous monitoring. And because they’re locally designed and built, they’re ideal for New Zealand conditions.

ANB Sensors for No Calibration pH Measurements

ANB Sensors range of pH sensors come in varying sizes and specs for calibration-free monitoring of the world’s oceans and waterways. They’re solid-state, can be stored wet or dry, and easily adapted to fit any housing and application.

Unlike conventional pH sensors that necessitate frequent calibration to maintain accuracy, ANB sensor’s advanced technology eliminates this process altogether, saving valuable time and human resources, while also ensuring consistent and reliable pH readings over extended periods.

Whether they’re monitoring industrial processes, natural environments, or laboratory experiments, ANB sensors deliver accurate results across a wide range of conditions, enabling businesses to streamline operations, enhance quality control measures, and make informed decisions based on real-time data.

Remote monitoring in real time means that managers can detect changes as they happen, without sending a trained staff member to site, and when combined with other Adroit sensors such as turbidity and rainfall sensors, it is possible to plot trends and visualise patterns.

ANB sensors also offer unparalleled durability and longevity, reducing maintenance costs and downtime. Built with robust materials and engineered for resilience, these sensors withstand harsh environments and continue to perform optimally even in challenging conditions.

Adroit Image Capture

While data visualisations and alerts are of huge benefit to businesses, sometimes a picture paints a thousand words. So, Adroit has released a complete managed environmental image capture solution which includes equipment, mobile network connection, cloud platform, training, installation, servicing and support.

The ability to visually monitor infrastructure and environments from images taken at set intervals assists in critical decision-making and environmental management. It also provides valuable insights into site activity.

Image capture increases awareness and information relating to site activity such as slips, flooding and infrastructure monitoring. Managers or stakeholders can get online as soon as an alert is received and check what’s happening on the site in real time. They can also look back through past images to understand how an issue occurred or developed. This helps ensure safer, healthier and more productive environments.

Image data can be visualised on the Adroit Platform and Mobile App, is accessible from any connected device to assist with health and safety, complaint mitigation and internal compliance management.

The Big Picture

Deployed individually, these new pieces of equipment deliver cost-effective, labour-saving solutions, but taken together, these devices can work to give a business, infrastructure provider or Council powerful early warning system for health and safety of employees, team members, or members of the public.

A case in point could be a bridge in a rural area, upstream of a township that is prone to flash-flooding. With a weather sensor alerting of extreme precipitation, a water level sensor reporting a dramatic rise in river height and a Tiltmeter warning of nearby ground movement, in a crisis, stakeholders would be able to make quick, informed decisions about the risk to staff and the public without the delay and risk of sending an employee to the site.

Visual verification from the Adroit Image Capture unit can then confirm what the sensors are reporting.

And as Adroit sensors transmit their data via satellite and run on solar or battery power, it means the situation can be monitored constantly, even if local communications fail.

The impact of floods and infrastructure damage that occurred throughout New Zealand in 2023 was a wakeup call for the entire nation and Adroit is seeing increased interest for all kinds of sensors, especially those that play a part in ensuring worker health and safety and safety of the public. And reducing time in the field not only reduces risk, it helps all businesses reduce their carbon footprint.

Adroit Smart Post

Adroit Smart Post

There’s more to a mounting post than meets the eye and the new Smart Post developed by the design team at Adroit is an elegant solution to a simple installation problem.

Adroit equipment, particularly noise, dust, and vibration sensors require a robust mounting post to facilitate sensors, satellite dish, solar panel, weather station or any number of variations of equipment. Additionally, there’s an optimum height required to keep equipment away from ground level and out of harm’s way.

So Adroit saw the need for a ‘smart post’ solution that could provide the perfect platform for any Adroit installation.

The post consists of a base plate, which can be mounted to either a concrete base, or one-ton block, and 980mm long sectional posts that can be used to build the post up to the desired height. The entire unit is mild steel, galvanised and powder-coated for durability in any environment.

Every type of sensor in the Adroit inventory fits easily onto the post. The top section can be fitted with a noise level boom attachment, or a weather station attachment – that goes straight onto the top. A new robust solar panel mounting system means it can be installed in extremely high wind zones – and can be rotated 360 degrees to get maximum sun throughout the year.

Newly designed enclosures easily mount directly onto the posts so only one person on a platform ladder is needed to install the enclosure, eliminating the need for two contractors.

A key feature is the compact size of the kitset package allows inexpensive distribution throughout the country.

So the post itself isn’t digitally smart. It’s just very clever. And it’s in stock now for solution requirements.
