Water Level Data Feeds Directly Into The Adroit Cloud Platform

Hastings District Council has deployed a network of Adroit VEGA radar-based river level sensors to provide flood level detection across the district’s waterways. Water level data feeds directly into the Adroit Cloud Platform, which integrates it with the Council’s existing weather centre and dam monitoring systems. This integration provides a unified, high-resolution view of catchment conditions, enabling early detection of rising water levels or blockages at key points, such as bridges.

The system is designed to deliver robust, automated alerts through configurable thresholds based on local hydrological models. In normal conditions, data uploads hourly, but during high-risk events the frequency increases to near real-time, giving emergency managers accurate, time-sensitive information. Each unit is solar-powered with internal diagnostics for year-round reliability and low maintenance.

"I would want to know that our customers have chosen our products — whether it’s because they have to or they want to — with a preparedness to say: 'I will react accordingly to the data that's collected’.

“So if I find that dust peaks past my consent point, I will use dust suppressant strategies or approaches to bring those back down; I will wet an area prior to works; I will adapt the approach of my equipment, whatever it is; and I will also react to my team — I’ll make sure PPE is mandated in those moments,” he says.

Despite this, some businesses Boulanger speaks with are still frustratingly hesitant, assuming the technology is out of reach or unavailable. "You’re not an early adopter if you pick this up now," he says. “This isn’t leading edge. It’s mature. It works.” The bigger challenge is cultural. “Once you know what's wrong, you have to do something about it. And not everyone is ready for that.”

Adroit is already using AI tools to accelerate development and improve its products. “AI helps us quickly understand the subject matter so we can spend our time refining and validating,” Boulanger says.

“For clients, the real value is in focus. AI helps highlight where to look. It’s a starting point, not a final word.”

He’s clear that regulators will need time to build confidence in automated systems, but says the goal remains the same. "Regulators know what they want to see. They want good outcomes. The question is whether the tools being used are appropriate – and we can help answer that."

What excites Boulanger most is seeing Adroit technology become part of a customer’s way of working. “When you're entrenched in how a business operates, that’s strategic,” he says. “And if the outcomes are safer employees, a healthier environment, and a community that’s better protected, that’s a reason to get out of bed in the morning.”
