Gaining Clarity on the Future of Water
Water’s importance was on show at the Water New Zealand Conference held in Kirikiriroa Hamilton recently, and Adroit was proud to be part of the conversation.
Water has become a hot topic in recent years as communities have become increasingly aware of the threats to our most precious resource and the Adroit team was there in force to showcase Adroit technologies and to meet the movers and shakers in water management in New Zealand.
The conference highlighted key challenges and innovations, with a focus on technology, sustainability, and future-proofing water quality. Central to discussions were the impacts of climate change, infrastructure deficits, and pollution control. The conference emphasised the importance of addressing the growing demand for water infrastructure upgrades, especially in light of extreme weather events and regulatory changes designed to protect freshwater sources.
Technology was a prominent theme, particularly in the development of sustainable materials for wastewater filtration, aimed at removing pollutants like nitrates and phosphates from agricultural runoff and wastewater.
The need to expand measurement of contamination was referred to many times by key speakers and the role of sensors to measure and alert the public to potential issues was a thread throughout the event. The Adroit team was delighted to discover just how many delegates were aware of Adroit products and their potential to assist in water management nationally.
Efforts to preserve water quality for future generations were supported by the exploration of innovative, nature-based solutions, which included stormwater management techniques and the use of nanotechnology to tackle emerging contaminants such as microplastics and harmful chemicals.
Additionally, the conference addressed the cultural and environmental significance of water, aligning with the Māori principle of Te Mana o te Wai—the concept that water must be preserved for its own health before human use. Collaborations with indigenous experts played a critical role in guiding water stewardship efforts. Participants discussed integrating mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) into modern water technologies to ensure long-term sustainability and equitable resource management.
Adroit was proud to be part of the conversation and has already pencilled their inclusion for next year’s event.
